Why Formulate Goals?
If you hope to make your leadership a true competitive advantage, you simply must bring the kind of rigor to it that you would bring to any other part of your business. You need to understand and articulate where you and the company are headed, understand the current reality and the gap. You will have to face up to what’s required to make the changes, implement them, measure progress and follow up.
It looks like this:
- Develop awareness
- Clarify and capture your thinking
- Formalize commitment
- Enable feedback, follow up and accountability
- Create conditions for results and feedback
In the absence of that kind of rigor, you are just playing games–either making yourself feel better through activity or making yourself feel worse by raising your awareness.
It really is your choice.
